Non-Contact Corrosion Protection and Isolation Systems

1. Insulation Systems

Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI) has long been a major challenge in the petrochemical industry and other industrial sectors, affecting pipelines, storage tanks, vessels, and various types of process equipment.

Our solution uses electrically insulating supports installed between the insulation system and the process piping or storage tank surface. These supports create a uniform, stable, and continuous air gap, establishing a non-contact insulation system between the insulation and the underlying metal surface.

For storage tanks, insulating supports can also be installed at insulation joints. This design allows moisture and condensation trapped between the insulation layers and the tank surface to be effectively drained and discharged through designated pathways, significantly reducing the risk of moisture accumulation and corrosion.

The system can be integrated with:

  • Humidity and moisture-leakage monitoring sensors, including TDR (Time Domain Reflectometry) copper sensing cables and signal cables;
  • A patented clip-on installation system for fast and reliable installation;
  • Installation and construction practices based on Saint-Gobain standards and the relevant European standard EN 14419;
  • Corrosion-rate monitoring sensors for early detection and continuous assessment of corrosion;
  • Moisture drainage and vapor-release systems to prevent water accumulation within the insulation system;
  • Optional VCI (Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor) protection, including patented VCI-based corrosion protection technologies.

The overall concept is to create a controlled, ventilated, drainable, and non-contact environment around the protected metal surface, thereby reducing the conditions that contribute to Corrosion Under Insulation and improving the long-term reliability of the insulation system.


2. Cathodic Protection Isolation

Cathodic protection is an electrical circuit. Electrical isolation is therefore essential to ensure that the cathodic protection current is directed to the intended structure rather than being discharged into unintended metallic structures.

If the protected structure becomes unintentionally connected to another metallic system, cathodic protection current may be diverted away from the target structure.

Failure of electrical isolation can result in:

  • Increased cathodic protection current demand;
  • Reduced protection effectiveness of the target structure;
  • Unintended current distribution to adjacent structures;
  • Difficulties in interpreting cathodic protection survey and monitoring data;
  • Stray-current transmission and interference problems.

Our isolation solutions include:

  • Insulating flange kits;
  • Joint and gap isolation systems to prevent conductive foreign materials from bridging isolated components;
  • Insulating bolt sleeves and washers;
  • Isolated pipe supports;
  • Electrical isolation systems for pipelines, equipment, and other metallic structures.

These solutions are designed to maintain reliable electrical separation while providing mechanical stability and long-term environmental resistance.


3. Pipeline Leak Sealing and Isolation

For certain pipeline isolation and protection applications, we can also provide two-component epoxy (AB adhesive) injection, molding, encapsulation, and curing technologies.

These systems can be used to seal and isolate potential leakage paths, gaps, and vulnerable connection areas, providing additional mechanical protection and electrical/environmental isolation.

For pipelines and structures located in marine splash zones, we can provide heavy-duty carbon-fiber-reinforced PE wrapping combined with two-component epoxy adhesive curing and drainage isolation technology.
