Principle of ER Type Sensors

The application of ER is described in ASTM Standard G96. Its principle is simple and efficient: the electronic unit measures and records the change in resistance of fine metal wires coated on an insulating substrate over time. If the metal corrodes, the cross-sectional area of the wires decreases, and the resistance increases. A portion of the metal wires is protected by an organic coating or tape, serving as a reference to compensate for resistivity changes caused by temperature variations

This corrosion sensor utilizes electrical resistance to measure the extent of metal corrosion and thinning. To ensure accurate measurement, metal electrodes (carbon steel, aluminum, etc)are placed on the same plane, with one side covered by a corrosion-resistant material to prevent corrosion on that side; the degree of corrosion is determined by the resistance ratio. The height difference between the substrate and the metal pattern is eliminated, creating a structure that prevents water accumulation.
The sensor features a thin substrate allowing for flexible installation, an IP6 waterproof rating, and customizable dimensions and materials.
