Why do we opt for localized corrosion protection rather than ICCP protection?
Most corrosion protection solutions we adopt are only designed for medium-to-short service lifespans of 10 to 20 years. Full-scale cathodic protection systems come with prohibitive costs, and merely 25% to 35% of structures in high-risk zones are susceptible to corrosion. Impressed Current Cathodic Protection (ICCP) constitutes an extremely valuable protection system, yet it only delivers genuine cost efficiency when deployed over extensive areas and backed by long-term maintenance commitments.
If protection is required solely for weld joints, flange connections, individual pipes, single beams or localized small areas, we need more cost-effective, targeted approaches, such as ponding water prevention, perimeter edge protection, crevice corrosion mitigation, drain plugs for condensate drainage beneath thermal insulation, and related measures.
